The Infrastructure Technology Services (ITS) division of the Treasury Board Secretariat has an opportunity for a Communications Specialist seeking to work with a creative, talented group of like-minded communications professionals supporting ITS' Multi-Year Strategy, Operational Plan and innovative IT projects serving ITS and Ontario Public Service (OPS) employees, ministry partners and the citizens of Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, your responsibilities will be to:
• Conduct research, compile information, and source best industry trends and practices.
• Assess applicability to ITS and recommend the development and delivery of a communications strategy and plans.
• Provide communication strategies and advice to senior management with respect to the rollout of ITS initiatives.
• Research, write and coordinate web content for a variety of OPS intranet sites and other digital platforms, including e-newsletters and social media.
• Support the web content management and publishing function through the design, implementation and basic coding of web-based communications.
• Create layout and design of content, ensuring that it enhances and promotes the ITS and I&IT visual identities.
• Coordinate and mentor staff involved in the production of graphic materials for a variety of media.
• Lead and/or support special events such as leadership and team conferences, employee engagement and recognition events, logistics, audio/video and promotional support.
• Lead assigned projects in collaboration with other divisional, branch and/or unit staff, including the provision of technical guidance to project and/or team members, and on an as-needed basis, external resources.
• Lead the development of videography, video editing and related interview tasks, as required.

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of ITS and I&IT vision and organizational structure, programs, policies, codes, standards and procedures.
• You have knowledge and experience in IT and computer systems/software/networks such as MS Office, Outlook, Google Analytics, Internet and intranet.
• You have knowledge of and experience in web development tools, graphic design and illustration software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and media tools such as wikis, blogs and forums.
• You have knowledge of and experience with marketing automation platforms such as MailChimp, including design, development and testing.
• You have knowledge of and experience with development tools such as Html, CSS and others to enable effective design and deployment of digital initiatives.
• You have knowledge of communications principles, practices and techniques, policies, procedures and standards.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:

• You have oral, written communication and editing skills, including coding web-based communications to prepare a variety of reports, briefing materials, presentations, communications plans and strategies, terms of reference, project plans, and bulletins/booklets.
• You have relationship management, presentation and consultative skills, to inform, explain, promote and build trust and confidence with respect to ITS and I&IT strategic directions and goals.
• You can develop and deliver presentations to management and clients.
• You can establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with peers, clients and staff at all levels.
• You can translate IT content into plain language and prepare communication products for non-technical audiences.

Project Management and Leadership Skills:

• You have knowledge of project management methodologies, techniques, guidelines and standards.
• You can provide leadership and mentorship to staff.
• You can lead/manage other staff, assigned projects, including the provision of technical guidance to project and/or team members.

Analytical and Organizational Skills:

• You can coordinate various communications-related activities, multi-task and meet tight timelines.
• You can effectively gather and analyze information to identify and understand a variety of needs and perspectives.
