What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• promote environmental protection, pollution prevention and conservation
• provide legislative and policy advice and recommendations to various stakeholders
• identify environmental issues and conflicts and develop and integrate solutions
• review official plans, plans of subdivisions, amendments, as well as provide pre-submission consultation
• identify, develop and implement outreach and training to promote land use management and environmental assessments
• coordinate reviews by internal teams in areas of air, water and land
• evaluate applications and projects for approval under the class environmental assessment (EA) requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act
• prepare minister's correspondence, briefing notes and other documents

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• valid driver's licence required to travel to remote work locations to conduct field work

Technical skills

• proven ability to apply and interpret related theories and practices of land use planning, and environmental assessment processes
• ability to apply and interpret relevant legislation and guidelines
• demonstrated ability to apply the practices of environmental science including ecosystem and media specific natural environmental management components

General skills

• proven analytical, research, and planning skills to assess and identify environmental issues, conflicts and to implement solutions
• demonstrated project management skills
• time management and organizational skills to ensure submissions are completed within legislated timelines and established priorities are met to prepare reports, notes and correspondence
• strong computer skills to use a variety of software applications such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, database, and Excel

Communication and interpersonal skills

• communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to guide and lead in the proactive promotion of environmental management
• demonstrated skills in negotiation and arbitration to provide advice and recommendations
• ability to work in a team and to work independently
