What can I expect to do in this role?

Work Description:

You may be required to work on some or all of the following tasks:

• Assist program staff with providing information and support to victims and witnesses of crime in person and over the phone
• Explain court processes, roles of key players in the criminal justice system, accompany the client to court.
• Provide administrative support to the program (e.g. assist with receiving, sorting and sending mail, typing letters and reports, assist with answering telephones, arranging appointments and filing documents, assist with opening and closing client files, inputting data etc.)
• Plan, organize, coordinate and manage daily assigned work
• Work may require experience specified/listed in the questions below

How do I qualify?

Some positions require students to be 15-24 years of age (or 15-29 years of age if you are a person with a disability) due to program funding.

Some positions may require the successful candidate(s) to undergo a personal security screening check as a condition of employment.

Qualification Requirements:
Communication and Interpersonal skills

• You apply your verbal, written, listening communication skills and customer service skills to provide information and support to victims and witnesses of crime in person and over the phone
• You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
• You apply your verbal communication skills to liaise with crown prosecutors and defence attorneys, court staff and members of the public

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledge of and interest in the criminal justice system.
• Knowledge of community agencies and resources to support victims and witnesses of crime
• You apply your experience using Microsoft Office product suite, such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases; email and Internet to prepare a variety of documents (e.g. client files, reports)

Analytical and Organizational Skills

• You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines
• You assess/analyze requests from clients and provide available options of support while also keeping program staff informed

Other Requirements

• You apply your discretion and sensitivity skills when working with confidential information and vulnerable clients
• Ability to deal with stressful situations
• Ability to attend meetings at a courthouse and in the community, as required
