Are you a registered Psychologist interested in an exciting position in a medium-security correctional treatment facility that is using best-practices treatment approaches for offender rehabilitation? Located in the western GTA region, the Ontario Correctional Institute has been recognized as a leader in correctional treatment. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to be a central clinical player by providing group treatment programmes to address treatment targets such as substance abuse, anger management and sexual offending, as well as by providing some individual therapy and consulting to the case management team on the treatment units. If you are interested in delivering varied psychological services in an Institute dedicated to providing excellent correctional treatment to adult male provincial offenders, then consider this opportunity in a unique, treatment focused correctional facility.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Psychologist, you will:
• provide varied psychological services including the planning, conducting and/or supervising individual and group therapy sessions for inmates
• assess inmates' risk, criminogenic needs, and responsivity concerns and make recommendations for addressing targets
• develop and communicate individual therapeutic treatment programs compatible with institutional resources
• design and conduct evaluations of treatment and administrative programs
• develop and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment programs and recommend alternatives
• be part of a multi-disciplinary team regarding inmate mental health and care
• participate in research and ongoing program development with Research Director
• perform clinical duties including the preparation of evaluative and clinical reports
• assist with staff training programs
• provide consultation and advice to the institutional management team on inmate related matters
• respond to department inquiries as may be required by the Senior Management Team

How do I qualify?

Mandatory Requirements:

• you are registered as a Psychologist in the Province of Ontario with a minimum requirement of 'registered with supervised practice'

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

• you have knowledge of science and practices of psychology, including a full range of psychotherapeutic and assessment techniques
• you have knowledge of forensic psychological theories, practices and procedures and provincial and federal statutes relating to the practice of psychology
• you understand program evaluation techniques
• you have knowledge of community resources/services and related regulations

Planning, Organizational and Supervisory Skills:

• you can plan, conduct and oversee the psychological diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitative approaches to assigned inmates
• you have strong organization, coordination and supervisory skills
• you use diplomacy, tact and ability to gain the confidence of clients, staff and supervisor

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• you use your oral and written communication skills to communicate information regarding assessment approaches, findings and treatment/rehabilitative activities
• you can appropriately share and exchange information with fellow psychologists, health care professionals, team members, community agencies, inmates their families and/or advocates
• you demonstrate maturity, tact, discretion and sensitivity when discussing diagnosis, treatment and progress with inmates and when dealing with their families or advocates
• you are able to lead group and individual therapeutic sessions with a diverse inmate population

Analytical Skills:

• you use analytical skills to determine the most appropriate diagnostic approaches from a range of alternatives
• you have excellent research, analytical and problem solving skills
