Do you enjoy working in a fast paced environment with challenging work? If so, consider this opportunity with the Ministry of the Attorney General in Brampton.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing customer service at a public counter in a fast paced environment as well, as clerical and cashier duties.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• receive, review, process and issue court documents at a busy public counter
• respond to telephone/counter inquiries and provide information to clients and legal professionals
• provide information and assistance regarding procedures for completing and filing forms according to practices, policies and applicable rules
• collect fees, process payments, and issue invoices
• input/update cases on court computerized systems
• maintain filing systems and provide administrative/clerical support

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge:

• you have the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of court practices and procedures and relevant legislation (e.g. Courts of Justice Act, Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Family Law Act, Reciprocal Enforcement of Support Orders Act, Family Responsibility Act, Divorce Act, Creditors' Relief Act, Execution Act, Bankruptcy Act, Rules of Civil Procedure, Small Claims Court Rules, Estates Act, Civil and Case Management Rules, Divisional Court, The Hague Convention - Bilateral Treaties, etc)
• you have knowledge of court practices and procedures to process and prepare court documents such as claims judgements, writs, notices, appeals, Informations, warrants, etc

Administrative, Mathematical and Organizational Skills:

• you have knowledge of office administration procedures to provide administrative, financial and clerical support (e.g. reconciling a variety of documents, preparing basic routine correspondence, photocopying requested documents, managing current and archival files, updating internal manuals, etc)
• you demonstrate mathematical skills to perform basic calculations and process client payments as well as the ability to operate a cash register
• your organizational skills enable you to meet deadlines and set priorities in a high pressure and fast paced environment

Interpersonal, Communication and Customer Service Skills:

• you demonstrate interpersonal, communication and customer service skills to explain complex processes and assist clients through written correspondence, telephone and in-person
• you are able to work collaboratively with others

Judgement, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

• you can exercise professionalism, tact, discretion and judgement when providing information to clients and legal professionals
• you are able to deal with irate clients and resolve difficult situations in a respectful manner

Computer Skills:

• you are proficient with computer software packages such as Word, Outlook and Excel as well as specific court computerized systems such as Integrated Court Offences Network (ICON), FRANK, Estate Program, CISS Program and manual systems
• you demonstrate keyboarding skills to input and access client information

The screening check(s) will only be reviewed and evaluated by the TSO for the purpose of making a security clearance decision. The details of an individual's screening check(s) will be considered in specific relation to the duties and responsibilities of the position being filled. Screening check records will be maintained by the TSO and kept strictly confidential.
