The Ontario Provincial Police are hiring numerous positions across the province.



What can I expect to do in this role?

The Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police seeks qualified individuals to perform traffic and criminal related duties while maintaining and developing both external and internal partnerships.

How do I qualify?

Minimum Qualifications


  • Applicants must be a minimum 18 years of age.

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or its equivalent (i.e. grade 12 from any province of Canada). Candidates who do not have a grade 12 diploma, but have completed a college diploma program or a university degree program will be considered as having a grade 12 diploma. Applicants educated outside Canada should refer to the International Credential Assessment Service of Canada.

  • Must hold a Class 'G' driver's license with full driving privileges and no more than 6 demerit points.

  • No criminal record for which a records suspension (pardon) has not been received or an absolute/conditional discharge that has not been sealed.

  • Must be fluent in English.

  • Must be certified in Standard First-Aid and CPR (level 'C').

  • Must be able to pass Medical, Psychological, Security, and Financial Assessments and a detailed Character Investigation.

  • Must have demonstrated a commitment to maintaining a fitness routine that would allow for the successful completion of a rigorous Recruit Training Program and the demands of a policing career.


NOTE: Applicants to the OPP must be willing to serve anywhere in the province. Preferences for posting are taken into consideration.

  • Problem solving and analytical skills and ability to draw on personal experience, knowledge and training to problem solve complex situations and ability to make decisions that are fair, impartial and balance the interests of all concerned.

  • Organizational skills to meet deadlines and prioritize work responsibilities.

  • Skill in written communication to write concise clear notes, crown briefs and occurrence reports.

  • Knowledge of and skill in oral communication to provide accurate concise testimony in court and provide information to members of the public, co-workers and supervisors

  • Interpersonal skills to establish and build rapport with community members and to provide courteous and professional support and assistance in a sensitive and effective manner to a host of diverse cultural and social communities.

  • Team building skills and cooperation to participate willingly in team decisions, keep other team members informed, show respect for others, value others' input and show willingness to learn from others.

  • Skill in self-initiated learning to keep abreast of changes in Law Enforcement policy and best practices.

  • Listening and mediation skills to mediate conflicts between members of the public. Awareness of the impact of own actions and words. Personal and organizational commitment and integrity.
