If you have what it takes to conduct in-depth research and provide expert analysis and advice in regards to the forest products sector and emerging forest bioeconomy in Ontario, consider this interesting and challenging opportunity.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• coordinate and conduct research, analysis and environmental scanning to provide recommendations on options/ strategies that position the forest based industry in Ontario to be competitive in the marketplace
• collaborate with other stakeholders on strategic issues, research requirements and implications of social and economic trends and developments
• review, analyse and evaluate project proposals for Forest Resource Processing Facility Licences and other projects that will make use of Crown forest resources
• assist in the development of training, communications products and presentations on the role of the forest-based economy for a variety of internal and external stakeholders and clients
• represent provincial or Ministry forest economy interests on task teams, committees, and working groups
• prepare briefing notes, background papers and analysis to ensure the Minster and senior management are prepared when meeting with stakeholders or other government agencies

How do I qualify?

Technical expertise:

• expertise in natural resource management, economic theory, research methods and analytical techniques to develop and coordinate effective strategies, policies, agreements, programs, guidelines and legislation
• thorough knowledge of technological, social, economic, environmental and political trends and environmental scanning techniques to effectively meet the expectations of the position

Project management and planning skills:

• expert knowledge of research design, project planning and project management techniques to design, develop and implement project plans for carrying out economic research initiatives by a team
• organizational and financial skills and entrepreneurial spirit to identify and validate renewable resource use opportunities, stimulate projects and establish priorities

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• communication and interpersonal skills such as judgement, tact and diplomacy to exchange information and explain program/policy issues and to present program and policy options to other staff, program team members, managers and senior managers
• demonstrated writing skills to prepare summaries of research and findings, develop reports and briefing materials on recommended program/policy options and implementation strategies
• proven facilitation, networking and communication skills to consult and negotiate with Ministry staff, industry, academia, researchers and stakeholders regarding renewable energy programs

Analytical and problem-solving skills:

• knowledge of analytical, data modelling and problem-solving techniques to carry out complex analysis and evaluation of complex social and economic issues associated with an evolving forest economy
• proven analytical and problem-solving skills for planning, evaluating and recommending policies and programs in the context of a developing forest economy
