Make the most of your expertise in civil engineering with the Ministry of Transportation, Provincial Highways Management Division to provide direction related to the construction and maintenance of provincial highways.

NOTE: Please note that the salary range identified in this job advertisement has been revised. The new salary range for PME09 - Management Engineering PM-09 is $83,947.00 - $115,752.00 Per Year.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Under the direction of the Regional Contracts Engineer, you will:
• direct activities of consultants, contractors and technical supervisory staff engaged in construction and maintenance of highway structures and services
• ensure material and staff resources are utilized efficiently
• provide expert technical and managerial guidance and advice to resolve major and/or contentious engineering, maintenance and construction issues
• represent the ministry at management meetings, committee meetings, contactor's meetings, meetings with maintenance providers and dispute resolution meetings
• carry out special projects and assignments concerning Operations Office activities

Note: The successful candidate will be required to travel throughout the region to places not accessible by public transit.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory Requirement:

• applicants must be licensed with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)

Civil Engineering, Construction and Contract Management Knowledge:

• you have knowledge of civil engineering theories, principles and practices related to construction, and maintenance of highway facilities
• you have experience in the design, maintenance or construction of transportation corridors and structures
• you have knowledge of government administrative and engineering policies, procedures and standards governing contract administration

Analytical Skills:

• you use your strong analytical skills to assess recommendations for technical adequacy and consistency with government policies
• you use your initiative and sound judgement to assess and solve complex engineering problems

Communication and Management Skills:

• you have effective communication skills to deal with ministry staff, contractors, utility companies, consultants, municipal officials, other agencies and the public
• you are able to work under pressure to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
• you are well-organized and can coordinate multiple activities in relation to construction projects and maintenance operations
• you are able to make decisions independently
• you use your supervisory skills to provide engineering and managerial guidance to staff
• you can negotiate financial commitments with consultants and contractors
