Do you have a passion for assistive technology? Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity where you can have a province wide impact on assisting and training students with learning disabilities to use this technology? If so, The Ministry of Education, Provincial Schools Branch is looking for Assistive Technology Advisors to provide clerical, administrative and training services in support of learning disabled students with print impairments in the use of assistive technology hardware and software programs at the following Demonstration School location:

PSB16-193- Assistive Technology Advisor- Trillium Demonstration School, Milton, ON

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role you will:

• Provide assistive technology training and support to students, staff and families in the use of a variety of hardware and software programs;
• Adapt and coordinate assistive technology courses and demonstrate various assistive technology programs for students, staff and families;
• Assist with developing and implementing individualized assistive technology plans and programs for students by reviewing and assessing individual student needs and then working collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to identify the most beneficial supports available;
• Perform clerical and administrative services in support of the assistive technology program such as compiling and maintaining inventory and vendor listings, collecting data, preparing statistical reports, conducting research and performing other duties as assigned;
• Assist information technology staff with providing onsite trouble shooting of equipment;
• Provide leadership and expertise with respect to the newest available assistive technologies and programs.

How do I qualify?

Qualifications

Your background and experience enables you to meet the following requirements:

• experience and/or formal training in working with learning disabled students in an educational/residential setting;
• in depth knowledge and understanding of assistive technology software and hardware applications and learning software;
• ability to design, develop and deliver training sessions and workshops;
• ability to use sound analytical, reasoning and problem solving techniques to determine appropriate assistive technology resources required and to adjust or respond to situations encountered;
• flexibility and sensitivity to the individual learning needs and problems encountered by students;
• excellent verbal and written communications skills are essential;
• well developed interpersonal skills including tact and discretion to deal effectively with a wide variety of individuals including students, staff, internal and external stakeholders and vendors is required;
• strong research and information gathering skills;
• excellent organization and time management skills are required;
• ability to effectively deal with multiple priorities and conflicting deadlines;
• ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to be an effective and collaborative member of a multi-disciplinary team;
• good working knowledge of Windows XP, MS Office products and the internet is required to produce training materials, reports, letters, emails and to conduct research and information gathering activities;
• knowledge of administrative and office procedures and guidelines related to purchasing and inventory control.
