What can I expect to do in this role?

Recreational Program participants experience a science and technology adventure full of exciting exploration and discovery, in fun, hands-on settings. We require enthusiastic Junior Recreational Program Assistants (RPAs) to assist in the supervision of children and delivery of recreational programs. Senior and Junior RPAs will work as a team to facilitate science-related activities in a safe, organized, and engaging manner to children and youth attending programs including camps and birthday parties. Some Statutory holiday work and extended hours on a rotational basis may be required. Other tasks may be required as assigned by Supervisors.

Please note that these positions are irregular/on-call with no guarantee of hours, and may include evening, weekend and Statutory holiday work during natural school breaks.

Note: The number of positions to be filled has not been identified at this time.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• All candidates must be certified in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C prior to the start of employment and maintain certification throughout employment
• Top candidates will be required to obtain a Vulnerable Screening Sector check for this position.
• Availability during natural school breaks (i.e. March Break, winter break, summer, P.A. days, statutory holidays etc.)

Communication Skills

• Working knowledge of camp and recreational program environments in order to conduct active/circle games, icebreakers, songs etc. and related recreational experiences such as coaching and dramatic arts
• Excellent oral communication and presentation skills to deliver science content.
• Ability to adapt presentation language level, style, pace and illustrative examples to cater to a wide range of learning abilities/styles

Customer Service

• Proven commitment to customer service and visitor care
• Ability to interact with children of different ages, that have different learning styles/abilities, and/or special needs
• Ability to interact with caregivers and visitors in a professional, responsible and respectful manner as a representative of the Ontario Science Centre

Leadership Skills

• Motivation to work in a team setting
• Demonstrated dependability, reliability and initiative
