A unique and interesting opportunity exists for those with a background and experience in forestry and forest science. Consider this role in which your knowledge and communication skills will be showcased and utilized to provide advice and input into the development of resource management plans, regional programs, standards and guidelines.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• provide leadership in the identification and assessment of scientific needs, synthesis and transfer of science and technical information to meet the needs of resource management planners and practitioners;
• identify and investigate existing science to support resource management decisions, issues management, and policy implementation;
• support resource management decision making by transferring existing science, knowledge, information and technology;
• synthesize and analyse existing science and information to support decision making.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirement:

• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
• You must be a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) licensed in accordance with the requirements of the Ontario Professional Foresters Act.

Technical expertise:

• You understand the theories, principles and practices related to forest science and forest ecosystem dynamics (e.g. forest growth and yield, stand establishment, forest soils, forest succession) as well as the ability to apply current ecological, resource management principles and planning approaches.
• You can interpret and apply guidelines, policies and legislation regarding natural resource management, with respect to forest management planning and operations.
• You have knowledge of technical and scientific procedures and practices for monitoring and assessment (e.g. sampling methods, design and standards), and related tools and technology (e.g. geographic information systems, and statistical analysis).

Research and analytical skills:

• You have demonstrated research skills to review literature, scientific reports and research available technical information.
• You have analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate existing science related to resource management challenges or issues, assess biological/resource management situations, clarify problems, and identify and evaluate options.

Communication and presentation skills:

• You have written and oral communication skills to make presentations and provide technical advice, guidance, discuss technical information and provide training.

Interpersonal and relationship management skills:

• You can lead and participate in diverse teams to build consensus on terrestrial science needs and resource management issues.
• You can develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external networks of colleagues and specialists.

Project management and organizational skills:

• You have project management skills to lead and participate in teams to build consensus.
• You have project management skills to organize and assign tasks, coordinate and monitor project work.

Computer proficiency:

• You have knowledge of computer software, data management, spreadsheets, presentation, and geographic information systems.
