The Cyber Security Operations team at the Ontario Public Services (OPS) is a carefully assembled group of passionate and diverse individuals. The team proudly believes in our mission to protect the Ontario Government, public services and clients from a diversity of cyber threats. We are looking for a cyber security specialist with an in-depth understanding of existing security tools applied practices.

This is a technical and creative role, for a person who is enjoying being methodical in exploring new opportunities. Along with strong technology acumen and keen analytical skills, you'll have the ability to think strategically and creatively, with the capacity to push conventional boundaries, aiming to deliver best in class cyber protection services.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Network Security Specialist, you will:

• Provide expertise in information technology (IT) architecture in a number of the following domains: business, technology, applications, security and/or information and includes enterprise architecture frameworks, strategies, methodologies.
• Assist the Senior I&IT Architect in managing the planning, design, delivery and implementation of physical and virtual architecture solutions for large scale and complex multi-year I&IT projects required to meet major and critical business requirements of ministry client(s) impacting external stakeholders.
• Provide support to the Senior I&IT Architect to evaluate and lead the development of architecture policies, standards, guidelines and best practices affecting multi-ministry/cluster initiatives.
• Design, implement and support OPS technologies including but not limited to Firewalls, Web Filtering, HIPS, IPS, Network Behavior Analytics, policies, Disaster Recovery plans.
• Support CSOC technologies such as IPS', HIPS, Firewalls, Network Behavior Analytics tools.

How do I qualify?

Information Technology Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge and experience with Firewalls, IPS', HIPS, Routers, Switches, Load Balancers, Proxies, WAF, VPN, Web Filters, Secure Cloud Design.
• Knowledge and experience with IT security strategies, policies, standards, plans, current and emerging enterprise architecture principles, methodologies, mechanisms and techniques.
• Knowledge and experience with concepts of security in order to provide practical expertise to meet complex and/or diverse cluster/corporate needs.
• Knowledge and experience industry standards to provide state of the art advice, including systems analysis, design, development, testing and implementation methods, tools and techniques; technology data, and networking techniques.
• Knowledge of business process modelling, and/or information resource management, business analysis, design and process re-engineering to lead analysis and systems solutions.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• Consults with internal/external stakeholders to provide advice in defining systems architecture requirements and identifying solutions and deliverables suited to client needs; provides expert advice and technical expertise and makes presentations to project management teams.
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with senior I&IT architects and project stakeholders to promote and market I&IT architecture; consults with vendors, consultants and peers in the IT community and in other jurisdictions to address systems issues and developments.
• Written and oral communication skills to present IT strategies and solutions.

Problem Solving, Analytical and Other Relevant Knowledge and Skills:

• Ability to conduct security audits, vulnerability assessments, threat/risk assessments, and business impact analyses
• Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills to resolve highly technical issues with critical impact on the functioning of the Ontario Public Service
• Knowledge of legislation, directives and policies related to the protection of privacy
• Ability to provide input in architectural solutions to meet complex, multi-year plans, spanning multiple internal/external stakeholders and broadly defined business objectives.
• Ability to resolve significant integration and technical issues to address multiple systems/applications linkages, interdependencies and impacts; to research and recommend innovative systems architecture alternatives and integration strategies.
