Are you customer-service driven with strong analytical and interpretive skills? Are you ready to play an important role in managing Ontario's highway corridor? Then consider this exciting opportunity with the Ministry of Transportation.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Corridor Management Officer, you will:

• inspect highway corridor and ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and policies
• review and evaluate permit applications and issue permits for corridor activities such as highway access, signing, encroachments and building and land use, coordinate the relocation of utilities within the right-of-way
• work with ministry staff, municipalities, consultants, and the public
• identify and resolve problems related to corridor management.

Note: This position requires frequent travel throughout the region with overnight stays.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Valid class G driver's license to conduct field visits and/or inspect highway corridor
• Proficiency in English and advanced level oral French.

Communication, Interpersonal and Customer Service Skills:

• You are able to deal effectively with a wide range of internal and external clients such as: the public, consultants, developers, elected officials, and ministry officials.
• You can prepare correspondence and documentation related to applications and draft legal agreements and briefing materials.

Analytical, Problem-Solving and Judgement Skills:

• You are able to assess compliance of permit applications, inspect corridors, suggest alternate designs or options and resolve related issues with external clients.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• You have knowledge of highway engineering principles, concepts and practices.
• You have the ability to read/interpret plans, profiles, engineering studies/reports, official documents, memoranda and legal agreements.
• You have knowledge of permit application processes
• You have knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of land use planning, and applicable provincial acts and regulations (e.g. Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, Public Service Works on Highways Act, Drainage Act, etc.)
• You have the ability to use computers, common software applications and data bases to prepare permits, correspondence, briefing notes, etc.

Organizational Skills:

• You have organizational and planning skills to plan work, set priorities and coordinate with internal and external clients.
