Bring your expertise and enthusiasm for health privacy and policy development to the Health Policy Team at the Office of Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC), an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario which oversees the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Personal Health Information Protection Act and the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As Health Privacy Policy Analyst you will assist the IPC in maintaining its position as a leader in the field of health privacy and in meeting its responsibilities as the oversight agency under the provincial Personal Health Information Protection Act by: assisting with the review and approval of the information practices of various organizations; conducting health policy research and developing policy proposals/ recommendations and positions on issues related to the protection of personal health information; reviewing/providing advice on major health policy measures undertaken by government and health information custodians; preparing policy papers/reports /analyses for senior management on strategic/complex health policy issues; conducting environmental scanning and Internet searches of emerging issues and trends/technologies; participating in education/outreach programs.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

You will qualify if you have excellent knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act and related health legislation; knowledge of e-health initiatives and privacy issues relating to health information technologies, particularly electronic health records; experience in dealing with health privacy issues; knowledge of health care sector organizations; familiarity with legislative trends impacting access/privacy; proven organizational, analytical, evaluation, problem solving, negotiation and communication skills; excellent writing/research/presentation skills; ability to identify/analyse, exercise sound judgement re: complex issues; familiarity with health policy/legislation in other jurisdictions in Canada, U.S. or U.K. is an asset.
