The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), Policy Division, is seeking a dynamic leader to direct and oversee the planning, design, and development of legislation, regulations, strategies, policies and funding programs to support the objectives of the MNRF species at risk and biodiversity conservation mandate in Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As the Manager of the Species at Risk and Biodiversity Protection Section, you will:

• Provide leadership and support for the development of provincial legislation, regulations, policies, strategies and funding programs for biodiversity conservation, including the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

• Manage and oversee policy research, environmental scanning, risk assessment, engagement processes and analysis on biodiversity and species at risk issues.

• Lead the development of submissions to support Cabinet decision making.

• Oversee ministry relationships, lead consultations and work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external partners and stakeholders.

• Provide ministry leadership in provincial, national and bi-national forums.

• Lead the development and delivery of strategic direction, business plans and performance measures.

• Manage senior policy staff and two Coordinators of work units comprised of policy professionals and subject matter experts.

• You understand natural resources management, environmental protection and biodiversity conservation to effectively lead the development of policies and funding programs related to biodiversity and species conservation and recovery.

Stakeholder Management and Communications:

• You have experience managing strategic relationships/partnerships, collaborative networks and consultation processes with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• You have strong negotiation skills and are skilled at maintaining open lines of communication that sustain positive and productive relationships
• You have excellent political acuity to anticipate and respond to politically sensitive situations.
• You have demonstrated the ability to identify shifts, trends and opportunities to improve how business is done with internal and external stakeholders.
