Do you have experience in the creation of customized maps? Are you an expert in Cartography and graphic design? If so, then consider this opportunity with the Provincial Geomatics Service Centre with the Ministry of Natural Resources where you will provide technical expertise in cartographic design and business solutions.
What can I expect to do in this role?
You will:
• plan, manage and optimize the implementation and on-going use of cartographic technology and projects
• provide leadership and technical expertise in cartographic projects
• provide analysis and coordination by ensuring consistent methodologies are used and documented
• conduct quality control and assurance on cartography and GIS projects
• provide group leadership and technical support on cartographic projects
• track workflow and provide project summaries and updates as required
• participate in user and technical working groups and assist with developing cartographic related tools and solutions
How do I qualify?
Technical expertise:
• You have advanced knowledge of cartographic standards, principles, practices and production techniques.
• You have advanced technical skills to utilize GIS and graphic design software for the production of customized maps.
• You have advanced knowledge of geomatics theory and practice (GIS, Remote Sensing, Mapping and GPS) with emphasis on geospatial referencing systems, spatial data integration, geospatial analysis, statistical sampling techniques, error analysis, accuracy assessment, and quality assurance.
• You have knowledge of effective data management practices and principles to ensure high quality data is available to clients and stakeholders by collecting, converting and analyzing data.
• You have knowledge of issues affecting natural resources business areas (e.g. water, wildlife, forest, science, etc)
• You have knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
Project management skills:
• You have demonstrated project leadership skills to ensure project deliverables are completed on-time, within budget and to required specifications.
• You have knowledge of project management processes including project planning and closeout procedures.
• You have project leadership skills to track workflow and to provide summaries, reports and regular project updates at team meetings.
Information management skills:
• You have knowledge of information management principles concerning the quality, use and value of data and information including the importance of data standards, data exchange and data distribution to ensure high-quality deliverables.
• You have demonstrated skills in working with spatial data for the purposes of data distribution, data integration, data improvement and data analysis.
Communications and interpersonal skills:
• You have well developed communication skills to discuss client needs, coordinate activities and act as liaison with internal and external clients/partners.
• You have good teamwork skills to work harmoniously with working groups and project teams.
You have strong written communication skills to develop work plans, prepare proposals and various requests.
