The correct salary range for this position is $22.80 to $25.27 per hour in compliance with current OPSEU collective agreement provisions.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Your work will include:
• Assisting skilled tradespeople with a variety of maintenance/repair duties in carpentry, masonry, and HVAC areas
• Building and installing partitions, renovating, repairing furniture, windows, brick and plaster surfaces
• Painting, maintaining and inspecting equipment and installations
• Assisting Ministry or private contract personnel in major structural repairs or alterations
• Maintaining Ministry and government requirements for correctional facility security
• Maintaining work order and preventative maintenance logs
• Performing routine and preventative maintenance.
• Ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You are qualified in one or more of the skilled trades and licensed by the appropriate Ministry and/or equivalent demonstrated acceptable experience in the maintenance field
• You have a valid driver's license, First Aid and Heartsaver certified

Technical Skills:

• You have demonstrated ability to maintain and inspect equipment and installations
• You are able to interpret and apply knowledge of relevant legislation/regulations (e.g. Occupational Health & Safety Act, municipal by-laws and codes, provincial building codes)

Knowledge and Skills:

• You have experience in one or more skilled trade and in the maintenance field
• You are able to follow basic drawings such as blueprints, schematics and specification diagrams/drawings
• You are able to ensure the safety and integrity of installations and prevent injuries
• You have proven ability to perform a variety of skilled maintenance and repair duties in carpentry, masonry, and HVAC areas

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You can communicate in a clear and concise manner
• You are able to organize work and establish priorities
• You have proven interpersonal skills for interacting with inmate population, ministry officials, institution staff and the public
• You can determine work methods
