Join the Ontario Science Centre as we launch a new strategic plan and develop plans to celebrate our 50th anniversary in Fall 2019. As one of Canada's most visited cultural attractions and a world-renowned learning institution, the Ontario Science Centre welcomes one million visitors each year. We offer hands-on experiences and insights into science and technology that help visitors of all ages understand and contribute to the world around us.

This position will work in our fabrication group providing planning, coordination and estimating for projects and ongoing work.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Prepare budget estimates and monthly budget reports, monitor in-year expenditures, provide input to update the financial system including calendarized forecasting and analysis, provide purchasing and procurement services, and provide advice on most efficient use of financial and material resources
• Implement and coordinate a variety of concurrent projects for the department
• Collaborate with other branches and stakeholders regarding project implementation
• Coordinate the development of analytical reports and provide recommendations to support management decision making
• Manage major projects for the improvement of business systems and processes
• Provide financial and coordination support and assistance to Director, management team and unit staff

How do I qualify?

Financial Skills

• You have experience managing program expenditures by identifying surpluses/deficits and reallocating resources to utilize full allotment
• You have demonstrated knowledge of financial analysis methods and processes to develop and monitor budgets and prepare forecasts
• You have knowledge of purchasing, including procurement and contract management support

Project Management and Planning

• You have demonstrated skills and knowledge of project management techniques, tools, methodologies, and best practices to oversee the scope during the course of the project and collaboratively adjust scope where necessary
• You can coordinate multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

Communication and Stakeholder Relations

• You have excellent oral and written communication skills to respond to inquiries, prepare correspondence, reports and other materials
• You have interpersonal skills to work in a team environment and deal effectively with staff and stakeholders to coordinate office activities and provide information on the development of programs and events
• You have consultation skills to discuss expenditures issues and problems with management and staff and have the ability to present options to decision makers
• You are proficient in the use of software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet and project management

Organizational, Problem Solving and Analytical Skills

• You have organizational and problem solving sills to coordinate responses, including prioritizing and managing tasks with conflicting deadlines, determining appropriate contacts and extent of information to be provided in response to inquiries while ensuring confidentiality
• You have analytical, problem-solving and reasoning skills to provide accurate detailed information, reports, presentation and ad hoc request to support departmental needs
• You can monitor progress of projects for adherence to the term of funding agreements and use issues management skills to recognize problems and recommend resolution
