The Ministry of the Attorney General, Family Information Liaison Unit (FILU) is looking for a professional to provide front line services and program expertise with respect to a range of Indigenous programs and initiatives, including the families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) and survivors of violence against Indigenous women and girls.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed and holistic information services to families of MMIWG
• maintain a liaison between families and community agency personnel, government organizations and police
• prepare a range of correspondence, reports, and intake and assessment forms related to participant services
• prepare, updates and maintains confidential case files and detailed case notes
• represent FILUs at meetings of community groups, services, agencies, and local police services
• participate in public speaking engagements
• contribute to the development of an operational plan and annual strategic plans
• provide advice on issues related to MMIWG
• identify gaps in services/procedures for families of MMIWG, and survivors of violence against Indigenous women and girls
• identify strategies and policy options on emerging issues

How do I qualify?

Specialized Knowledge

You have knowledge of:
• issues pertaining to violence against Indigenous women and girls and families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG)
• policies and processes followed by government bodies in cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls
• the needs of Indigenous individuals and families of MMIWG including crisis and violence intervention and case management

You have an understanding of:
• the effects of trauma, grief and loss relating to victims of violence of Indigenous women and girls, and their families and the delivery of trauma-informed services, crisis response and intervention
• the criminal justice system, criminal code and other related legislation impacting program delivery to provide advocacy, advice and assistance to Indigenous individuals and families of MMIWG, and survivors of violence against Indigenous women and girls

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You have oral and written communication skills to provide front-line services , case information and prepare case file information, correspondence, reports and forms
• You have presentation skills to participate in public speaking
• You have interpersonal skills to deal with the families of MMIWG, and victims of violence against Indigenous women and girls
• You show sensitivity and empathy to facilitate a trusting environment
• With your conflict resolution skills and tact you can defuse potentially volatile situations
• You have intervention and crisis response skills to respond to clients in crisis

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

You can:
• conduct needs assessment and information gathering, assess individual and families' needs, and provide relevant guidance and information
• determine appropriate action in delivering services that deal with highly contentious and sensitive issues
• identify issues requiring immediate referral
• identify gaps in services/procedures and policies
