Join the Ontario Science Centre as we implement a new strategic plan and make preparations to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2019. As one of Canada's most visited cultural attractions and a world-renowned learning institution, we inspire passion for the human adventure of discovery. The Centre hosts up to a million visitors each year, and offers hands-on experiences and insights into science and technology that help visitors of all ages understand and contribute to the world around us.

This position provides operational and facilities management for the Centre's iconic building which comprises a 500,000 square foot complex located on 47 acres of spectacular natural landscape in central Toronto.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Director, Technical Operations you will:
• Manage the day-to-day delivery of facility maintenance services, and shipping/receiving control to support core building operations.
• Advise on and develop project and operational plans.
• Prioritize and oversee facility capital and renewal projects.
• Ensure all statutory and regulatory obligations are met or exceeded with respect to maintenance of the facility.
• Prepare procurement documents, review bids, negotiate terms, prepare contract documents, and monitor sub-contractor performance.
• Communicate and advise management on policies and procedures, technical problems, and priorities associated with operational standards of facilities. Provide expert technical advice to the Director, Technical Operations.

Technical Knowledge

• You have well-developed technical and operational knowledge of facilities management to oversee day to day site operations.
• You have thorough knowledge of repair and maintenance practices related to maintaining public grounds.
• You have experience with contract tendering and management.
• You have overall knowledge of building trades.
• You are able to develop, administer and control expenses and operating budgets, both for projects and for the work unit.
• You have the ability to understand and apply all relevant legislation with respect to environment, building code, and health and safety issues.
• You have proven ability to read, understand and interpret drawings and prepare specifications for building projects.
• You are skilled in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, statistical, drawing and project management software to prepare analyses, reports and recommendations.
