Do you enjoy working in the fast-paced world of media relations and issues management planning? If so, consider joining the dynamic communications team supporting the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines (MNDM) to provide media relations, strategic communications and issues management advice.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a member of a busy issues and media relations team, you will:

• provide media relations and issues management support
• monitor, anticipate, analyze and manage emerging issues
• provide strategic senior level communications expertise, consultative advice and guidance
• plan and coordinate implementation of communications plans and marketing strategies
• lead communications planning for the ministry's business planning process and annual strategic communications planning process
• liaise between Cabinet Office Communications and ministry Corporate Policy Secretariat

How do I qualify?

Media relations and issues management experience:

• You have demonstrated experience applying communications and planning theory and techniques, and methods with specialization in media relations principles and best practices.
• You have demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate the implementation of communications strategies and plans.
• You have excellent judgement and political acuity to develop communications strategies that are consistent with corporate direction and deal with politically sensitive and contentious issues.
• You have demonstrated knowledge of new media and web communications.

Communication and relationship management skills:

• You have excellent written communication skills to write and edit strategic communications plans, news releases, fact sheets, speeches, and backgrounders.
• You have oral communication and consultation skills to provide advice to senior management and act as communications expert on ministry and inter-ministerial teams.
• You have relationship management, conflict management and partnership skills to develop long-term relationships with clients.

Project management and leadership skills:

• You have excellent project management and leadership skills to effectively plan, organize, execute, monitor, and evaluate communications projects.

Time management and organizational skills:

• You have excellent time management skills and the ability to work under pressure with frequently changing and competing priorities and ability to plan and coordinate the implementation of communications strategies and plans.

Analytical and problem-solving skills:

• You have demonstrated research, analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, analyze and advise on potential, emerging and existing contentious issues, develop and implement a strategic response.
• You can resolve problems and anticipate courses of action.

Computer skills:

• You are proficient using a computer and associated software such as Word and Internet/Intranet.
