What can I expect to do in this role?

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Ontario Provincial Police, Business Management Bureau, has a challenging opportunity for a self-motivated individual to provide accommodation project co-ordination and advice on a range of accommodation issues within the OPP General Headquarters building and for Orillia deployed units, (e.g. Chief Firearms Office, Technical Support Section, etc.).

Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and internal facilities management policies, procedures, and design standards to provide technical advice to clients (i.e. how and what facility changes will assist in meeting the clients operational goals).

Knowledge of relevant building codes, standards and legislation governing building construction (i.e. building and fire codes, ergonomics, Health and Safety) to ensure compliance to standards and legislative requirements in the provision of facilities management advice and policy interpretation and in the project management of capital projects.

Knowledge of facilities management, leasing, building security, project management, and construction principles to plan and manage small and medium sized accommodation and renovation projects (i.e. the use of space analysis and planning, project co-ordination).

Knowledge of the operations and capabilities of facilities design and database technology (i.e. CADD-FM) to create, review and modify office plans and design drawings. Job requires the knowledge of software programs (Microsoft Suite) to produce reports, correspondence and spreadsheets. Job requires knowledge of construction estimating and budgeting to prepare and manage project budgets.

Knowledge of arithmetic to perform calculations.

Knowledge of furniture systems and components to complete specifications for obtaining quotes and coordinating installations.

Oral communication skills to provide advice to clients; to provide interpretation and information on technical facilities, management policies, standards and legislative requirements; and, to provide direction to assigned project teams and client groups along with written communication skills to compose correspondence e.g. decision and information notes, business cases, procurement packages, progress reports, and executive letters.

Negotiation and interpersonal skills to respond to problems tactfully and quickly, to deal with IO and their Service Provider representatives on service agreements and to negotiate services with external vendors, consultants and contractors.

Analytical skills to develop facility options that meet the client's business needs; to determine critical issues and to determine how to deal with both critical and non-critical items (e.g. separating true safety issues from operational wants).

Investigation and problem solving skills to investigate complaints and provide creative solutions to urgent or unique facilities management requests (e.g. alternative accommodation on an emergency basis due to flooding, immediate accommodation on new hires requiring special accommodation due to physical disabilities).

Analytical skills to establish project plans identifying critical target dates, financial, material and human resource requirements, to evaluate project performance and to resolve critical issues (e.g. project implementation problems, poor quality standards, health and safety concerns, meeting of deadlines, responding to association and individual staff concerns).

This job also requires evaluative skills to ensure compliance to building codes, construction standards and legislative requirements and to interpret corporate and ministry facility management policies relative to space guidelines, office design, work flow improvements and the integration of technology within current and proposed facilities.
