What can I expect to do in this role?

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Bureau Commander, Corporate Communications and Strategy Management seeks a qualified member to plan, implement and provide corporate oversight of the social media program for the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). To conduct ongoing analysis, quality assurance and training to ensure adherence to OPP social media policies and overall priorities and strategic directions. To coordinate the development of social media communications, to provide public affairs expertise for contentious/complex initiatives and to provide advice to senior managers on social media communication strategies to address significant issues and events.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory:

Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of human resources practices, policies, directives and collective agreements in relation to recruitment, training and development and labour relations to support an inclusive and engaged team. Ability to address employee issues and to support talent management.

Ability to coordinate and manage the delivery of the OPP's social media program, to manage the activities of the unit in the development of new media products and services and technical coordination of social media technologies.

Knowledge of print/broadcast and web media monitoring services. Knowledge of social media platforms and uses for organizational communication (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

Knowledge of communications principles and practices. Ability to exchange information on corporate policies/standards, and to coordinate social media and content strategies. Ability to write project plans, proposals and social media content, to support decision-making and the development of social media policies.

Ability to plan OPP creative products and to provide support to OPP senior managers in the development and implementation of new products. Ability to coordinate and execute a communications implementation strategy.

Ability to ensure that identified organizational standards and operational goals are met. Demonstrated teamwork skills and ability to liaise with clients and areas throughout the OPP.

Ability to coordinate and plan the delivery of a program, operation, service or project considering the strategy and mandate of the Bureau/OPP. Problem solving skills and ability to analyze pros and cons of delivery/potential impact.

Ability to coordinate consultation and advisory meetings relating to program/service initiative with external and internal stakeholders, partners and consultants. Excellent partnership building skills.

Knowledge of computer applications and design theories and practices. Knowledge of the administration of social media platforms/websites.
