What can I expect to do in this role?

Working in partnership with internal clients to provide services and highly leveraged solutions to business problems of a potentially complex nature including structural, organizational or procedural changes, normally requiring application of computer and/or communication technologies which provide significant added value to the organization. Accountable for managing a team of skilled knowledge professionals, to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget and to the client's satisfaction. Work with internal staff and external service providers in providing operational excellence that meets or exceeds the service level agreement. Participate as a member of the management team in all planning activities undertaken by the Branch, and work in conjunction with staff in other branches of the Division to achieve project goals and deliverables.

Plan, direct and coordinate all aspects of solutions engineering and data management which includes design, development, testing and support business solutions.

How do I qualify?

Major Duties & Responsibilities

• Create and maintain the solutions engineering center of excellence. Provide the development strategy, principles and guidance; work with the project teams to ensure the project deliverables meet the required standards.

• Manage and lead a team of development and data management resources, including external consultants in the requirements gathering, solution, design, development and implementation of new or enhancement approved projects with high quality results.

• Provide service line support to various business groups. Meet with customers to review the requirements for any service requests; provide on-going progress status updates of the service requests and provide service line scorecard report. Meet with the customers on a regular basis to conduct operational review of each service line.

• Review project resource requirements and provide the appropriate resource(s) to the project team. If there is no in-house resource available, work with the project manager to identify skills requirements for external hiring.

• Respond to incidents and problems escalation that may happen anytime 7x24. Ensure appropriate support personnel are available and help clear the path for quick resolution. Continuous monitoring and support of the problem situation, attend conference calls with Incident Managements, WSIB support personnel and external service providers.

• Facilitate meetings with service provider in the event of issues that involve non-WSIB resources. Gather WSIB resources as needed to plan, review and brainstorm throughout the problem investigation and resolution period.

• Provide leadership to approved projects including developing and setting team strategies, mandates, mission statements and objectives in keeping with organizational values.

• Manage staff resources including recruiting, orienting, training and development, setting objectives, appraising employee performance, coaching and counselling.

• Work with branch management team in developing longer term strategic plans, and with peers in other IT areas to resolve conflicting priorities, to improve the level of service to clients, and to achieve project goals and deliverables.

• Implement solution engineering and data management principles, policies, standards and guidelines while adhering to data modeling standards and best practices by:
o Managing the design, development, preparation and maintenance solutions and databases
o Managing the system performance and tuning analysis to ensure optimal performance levels, identifies and resolves bottlenecks and problem
o Overseeing hardware/software resources for business applications to ensure that enough resources for short-term and long-term growth.

• Provide subject matter expert advice and information for RFPs and participate in RFP evaluation.

Professional Requirements and Qualifications

• Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

• 8-10 years of experience in software development and project management

• Professional experience in integration and middleware and data and information management

• Superior knowledge of management principles and theories to provide leadership and direction to staff and to build, develop, coach and motivate team
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present complex facts, information and explanations to audiences

• Ability to build constructive and effective relationships, work collaboratively with colleagues, vendors and stakeholders

• Influence decisions and acceptance for recommended initiatives, strategies, and solutions
