Consider joining the health care team at the Cecil Facer Youth Centre where you will provide general and psychiatric care to youth and to collaborate with the Case Management team in facilitating and accessing community mental health services for youth.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Provide mental health services to youth and confirming their mental health diagnosis with the consultant psychiatrist.
• Develop internal tracking tools to track youth with mental illness, their progress, mental status and treatment.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary health services team to administer and monitor medication, and provide one-on-one counselling to youth.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and current unencumbered registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• You have current first aid and CPR certification at the Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Level.
• You are registered for a mental health nurse certification program (please note: the successful candidate will be required to have registered for a mental health nurse certification program upon job offer and complete certification requirements within a specified time period)

Technical Knowledge and Skills

You have knowledge of:
• nursing theories, practices related to youth/adolescent mental health and relevant legislation, including Mental Health Act and Child and Family Services Act. Consent to Treatment Act etc..
• Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations to ensure compliance when performing nursing duties
• behaviour management techniques to work with challenging youth behaviour

Analytical, Problem-Solving and Coordination Skills

You have:
• reasoning and assessment skills to elicit and interpret information from youth and other sources
• analytical skills to evaluate youth's responses to planned interventions and determine modifications
• tact and discretion to interpret or clarify information about psychological illness and treatment.
• planning and coordination skills to provide mental health treatment

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You have effective oral and written communication skills to present ideas and develop rationales orally or in writing.
• You can document youth care and progress using the College of Nurses of Ontario documentation guide.
• You have interpersonal skills to negotiate treatment plans and explain expected outcomes and possible side effects.
