• This position requires working with and providing instruction to inmate helpers (and is eligible for the Custodial Responsibility Allowance)

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Oversee and participate in storekeeping operations including: purchasing, receipt verification, storage, control, security, packaging and shipping of parts, stock items, materials, products and equipment; assembling, repackaging goods and mixing products for distribution/use.
• Ensure the manual/electronic storekeeping database is updated on inventory acquisition and distribution
• Identify and recommend operational and procedural changes to improve storekeeping operations, (i.e. location of stock, stock room security)
• Provide supervision to selected inmate helpers including providing instructions on work methods and preparing reports on conduct and performance
• Ensure safety and security of staff, inmate helpers, and stores area

How do I qualify?

Stock Keeping Knowledge and Experience

• You have experience with stock keeping practices and processes in order to supervise the receipt, storage, recording, control, security and distribution of stock, parts, products and equipment
• You have knowledge of record-keeping procedures to process stock transactions, maintain inventory control, access, monitor and review transaction status, and reconcile/balance purchase statements
• You have experience with stock and equipment purchasing practices and processes
• You have experience using tracking and inventory control database systems to ensure accurate and up-to-date stock transaction records and monitor the movement of materials, supplies, and equipment
• You are able to understand and apply relevant legislation, regulation and policies (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS) to ensure proper handling, mixing, and storage of goods, and to maintain safety and security of stock areas

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can explain instructions and procedures to staff and inmate helpers
• You can discuss and resolve problems with suppliers and staff
• You have written communication skills to prepare reports

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

• You can identify and prevent safety risks concerning stock layout (ex: unbalanced stacking on overhead racking)
• You are able to resolve billing issues and discrepancies
• You can manage workload to meet fluctuating priorities
• You are able to handle complaints and ensuring proper documentation is maintained to support claims and return goods
• You can recognize security and work place hazards to ensure prompt corrective action
