The successful candidate will be responsible for three operating parks and five non-operating park.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this unique and challenging role, you will:

• plan, implement, direct and control the management of a group of provincial parks
• provide ecosystem protection and management for the region
• plan, prepare and administer the park budget
• plan, coordinate, direct and evaluate park operations and park infrastructure
• provide leadership on human resources activities (i.e. selection, training and evaluation of staff, assigning work schedules, managing performance)
• provide leadership in the delivery of quality customer service to park guests
• develop marketing and promotional partnerships with local interest groups and stakeholders
• manage local issues regarding land use planning, access, tourism and public safety
• plan, coordinate and evaluate all components of the park's operations

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirements:

• You must be able to be designated as a Park Warden and meet ministry certification criteria and standards in Use of Force training.
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the province of Ontario.
• You must have the ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays.
• You must possess or have the ability to obtain a Small Drinking Water Systems Operator Certificate.

Technical expertise and knowledge:

• You possess knowledge of resource management principles related to park management, operations and planning.
• You are knowledgeable about marketing principles and strategies in order to promote park usage and merchandise.
• You have an understanding of trades and ability to understand site development and construction plans and specifications.

Leadership skills:

• You have leadership skills to supervise and develop a large diverse staff, monitor performance and promote excellence in customer service and team performance.
• You have team leadership skills to plan and deliver a regional ecosystem management program including partnership development and maintenance.
• You have demonstrated skills in managing human resources including labour relations issues.

Analytical skills:

• You have the ability to interpret and apply related policies, procedures, acts, regulations and legislation in the areas of environmental protection, staff supervision, financial administration, park enforcement and health and safety.

Communications and interpersonal skills:

• You have communication, interpersonal, negotiation and facilitation skills to liaise with various stakeholders, agencies and interest group as well as the public, media and other park staff.

Other important skills:

• You have demonstrated skills in preparing and managing financial budgets.
• You are proficient with a variety of computer software applications (eg. word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, internet, etc.).
