Do you have specialized skills and knowledge that would contribute to the geodetic control survey functions of the Office of the Surveyor General, within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
What can I expect to do in this role?
• maintain the provincial geodetic control reference framework and quality control procedures applied to control survey projects
• maintain the provincial geodetic control survey database known as COSINE (Control Survey Information Exchange)
• apply extensive quality control procedures and geodetic analysis techniques to geodetic control survey projects submitted by partners and stakeholders for inclusion in COSINE
• provide technical advice and support, training and guidance on control surveys, Global Positioning System (GPS) and least squares adjustments to internal and external agencies, partners and stakeholders
How do I qualify?
Specialized knowledge and skills:
• You have knowledge of geodetic datums (horizontal and vertical), coordinate systems, coordinate transformations, geographic (horizontal) co-ordinate systems, mapping plane coordinate systems, geodetic computations, including network design, statistical theory of measurement errors, least squares adjustment methods, relational database theory, and mathematical coordinate transformation techniques.
• You have knowledge of data standards, referencing standards, data life cycle and data architecture, related to geodesy to resolve technical issues and provide technical expertise to the development of geodetic and geomatics standards.
• You have knowledge of theories, principles and practices of geodesy, geodetic data processing and analysis, and control surveying.
• You have knowledge of quality control and quality assurance principles and practices.
• You have knowledge of field method and equipment used in conducting control surveys, including GPS/GNSS technology and digital levels.
Technical skills and knowledge of computer systems:
• You have proven technical skills and knowledge of computer systems, including Windows operating environments; ORACLE databases and SQL, experience in maintaining ORACLE databases and writing SQL routines or functions to support updates or deletions to large portions of the database.
• You have proven experience with programming languages for data manipulation and writing complex queries, Office Automation software, prepare reports, spreadsheets to summarize statistical analysis and data characteristic.
Analytical and research skills:
• You have analytical skills with the ability to ensure high quality data is available to clients and stakeholders by collecting, converting, improving and analyzing data.
• You have research skills with the ability to conduct reviews/analyses and identify and resolve geodetic network issues.
• You have proven ability and work experience to interpret and apply standards and policies governing geodetic data and geodetic data management.
• You enjoy paying close attention to detail and resolving discrepancies in numerically based systems.
Communication skill and interpersonal skills:
• You have well developed interpersonal skills to lead meetings, discuss client requirements, provide advice and instructions to clients, staff and contractors and to act as primary contact with various business areas.
• You can prepare documents, detailed reports, correspondence and other materials.
• You have the ability to communicate technical terms to colleagues and in non-technical terms to non-specialised clients and contacts and use advisory, liaison and facilitation skills to build consensus.
Project management and organizational skills:
• You have proven project management and organizational skills to coordinate your own work with other work groups, clients and suppliers.
• You have effective time management skills to meet competing deadlines.
