Fort William Historical Park is one of the largest living history attractions in North America. The park provides cultural, heritage, entertainment and educational experiences for residents and visitors to Northwestern Ontario.
We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team and perform grounds upkeep and maintenance of the premises, including historic precinct, recreation trails and other areas.
PLEASE NOTE: This position may require you to attend overnight functions, travel to out of town events and off-hour programs, and work on holidays and weekends
What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
• inspect, maintain and prepare the grounds
• provide tree care and removal services, trim grass and maintain flower beds
• operate grounds keeping and related equipment safely
• plow snow and shovel walkways
• assist with the set up and take down of exhibits, stages and other furnishings for events and activities
• check for hazardous conditions and indications of fire or security breaches
• work with others on grounds related projects, and oversee student staff
• provide information and directions to tourists and visitors
How do I qualify?
Mandatory:
• You have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
• You have a valid class CZ driver's licence, or the ability to obtain one.
• You have a Forklift Operator's Licence, or the ability to obtain one.
Technical knowledge and experience:
• You have experience in providing grounds upkeep and maintenance services in a large public or commercial facility.
• You can operate and perform basic maintenance of power and hand tools, and heavy grounds keeping equipment.
• You have knowledge of plumbing, general carpentry, electrical lock up and machinery operations.
• You have knowledge of security procedures and life safety systems.
Customer service, communication and interpersonal skills:
• You can provide services and information to clients and visitors with a positive, friendly and courteous attitude.
• You can develop grounds keeping plans, and maintain records.
Analytical, evaluative and organizational skills:
• You can set priorities and determine best methods to complete assigned work.
• You can monitor equipment, material and supply usage and record inventory.
• You can oversee and evaluate work performed by students.
• You can determine potential security threats and address concerns.
