Justice Technology Services (JTS) provides I&IT services in partnership with the Ministry of the Solicitor General and the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG), including their respective agencies, boards and commissions.

As a cluster, we support 26,000 users in more than 800 locations province-wide, including 10,000 external partners representing the judiciary, municipal courts, private bar, emergency services, police and fire services from regional and municipal governments across the province.

JTS also works directly with the Office of the Corporate Chief Information Officer on a number of corporate initiatives that impact technology development and use across the justice sector and the broader Ontario Public Service.

What We Do:
The Solicitor General Solutions Branch within JTS is responsible for supporting Police, Public Safety and Corrections clients in Ontario. We work with federal, provincial and municipal Police Services, Coroners, Forensic Science, Emergency Services and Fire Marshalls.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a valued team member you will:

• Design and develop system interfaces for both acquired and internally developed application solutions, which includes unit testing, develop appropriate artefacts / documentation
• Perform system integration from a technical perspective, including designing appropriate ETL solutions
• Provide technical expertise and leadership, develop and implement business intelligence solutions to support Police end users, project teams and peer technical staff
• Plan, validate, and document deployment process for system functionality supplied by vendor, co-ordinating and performing conversion activities with each Police Service and operations
• Interact with key business & technology stakeholders to document, design and develop decision support reports based on data across Police applications
• Proactively look for solutions to prevent complex problems from occurring across teams/technologies.
• Lead and implement initiatives as required to deliver business objectives.
• Recommend or automate approaches to streamline and integrate technological processes and/or systems to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Provide expedient problem determination and resolution.
• Work independently and as part of a dynamic team. You are responsible, disciplined in your work style, self-motivated and follow tasks through to completion.
• Resolve technical and some business incidents independently.
• Provide documentation for new or existing systems as required.

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge and Experience

You have:
• knowledge of information technology and information engineering principles, computer programming techniques, client/server application development technology
• knowledge of, and experience with XSLT, ETL, SQL, XML, .Net, HTML
• knowledge of LAN, WAN, Firewalls and PC hardware, software architectures, network protocols and topologies to analyze existing ministry technology and identify improvements/developments
• knowledge of current and the advances in software products
• experience in advanced WINTEL installations, configuration, troubleshooting and administration, including file system, integrity, security, system & user account automation, domains, trust relationships, dir. replication, system optimization, client printing, and communications
• the ability to learn and interpret information technology policies, directives, and guidelines
• experience in designing, implementing and supporting hardware/software infrastructures for both development and production environments, supporting multi-tiered applications in large distributed environments

Reasoning, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

• you can assess and recommend architectural strategies of highly complex technical solutions
• you can assess technical design problems and develop computerized solutions to information problems in support of end users
• you can conduct cost benefit analyses in support of acquisition recommendations

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• you have excellent written and oral communication skills to discuss client requirements, prepare project reports and discuss acquisition recommendations with clients, technical staff and vendors
• you have interpersonal skills to listen, negotiate and influence technology issues and ensure performance and standards needs are achieved while delivering business solutions
• you have demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions with vendors, customers, other technical staff and senior management
