The Forest Industry Division represents and supports the Ontario forest industry sector and is responsible for:
• Business development, emerging markets and trends
• Wood promotion, supply information, allocation, licensing, measurement and use of Crown timber
• Forest tenure and economics, timber pricing, harvest revenues, forest products trade and the emerging forest bio economy
What can I expect to do in this role?
As the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Forest Industry Division you will continue to position Ontario as a leader in developing sustainable policies that promote a long-term, economically viable and environmentally sustainable Ontario forest industry.
Reporting to the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry you will:
• Provide strategic leadership on forestry sector revitalization and transformation initiatives and act as an advocate for business and economic functions within the forest industry. This includes responsibilities for industrial strategies, competitiveness measures and international trade
• Provide executive leadership in the design, development and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated forest sector strategy for the ministry
• Represent the ministry on matters relating to international trade, and on a variety of cross-jurisdictional and public forums
• Provide advice to the Minister, Deputy Minister and ministry on Indigenous forestry matters and forest competitiveness
• Proactively develop on-going linkages and collaborative working relationships with senior management, delivery partners, stakeholders and clients (e.g., industry, business, academia, Indigenous organizations, municipalities and federal government)
• Provide leadership and direction to the management and staff of the division, including oversight of assigned financial and human resources including: budget accountability, recruitment, planning for succession management, and handling a broad range of employee relations matters
• Participate as a member of the Ministry's Executive Committees by providing input into Ministry policy setting, program development, operational delivery and the MNRF business planning

• You are a sophisticated communicator with superior public relations skills to represent the ministry and government and can lead stakeholder/ public engagements
• You have superior diplomacy and negotiation skills and can deal fairly, frankly, assertively and constructively with senior officials and stakeholders to resolve highly contentious issues
• You demonstrate a high degree of political acuity in anticipating and recognizing sensitive political situations, as well as responding to contentious issues and trends in an ever-changing environment
Technical Expertise
• You have a good understanding of Ontario's legislative and regulatory environment and the priorities, opportunities and challenges facing Ontario's forestry sector
• You have a thorough understanding of the Ontario forest industry, its economy, operations and practices
• You have sound knowledge of natural resources management and the broader environment
• You have expert knowledge of policy and program principles, planning and strategies
• You have strong business and economic analysis expertise
