@ONtransportThe Branch:The Transportation Policy Branch is an active, fast-moving branch involved in a number of high-priority files, such as leading the ministry-wide policy work to prepare Ontario's transportation system for emerging technologies (such as automated vehicles and low carbon vehicles), as well as leading a new user safety policy agenda to address key ministry priorities on safety across all modes, as well as exploring how to make the transportation system more user-focused.

**Note - this posting is for one (1) permanent Policy and Program Advisor and one (1) temporary Policy Advisor**
What can I expect to do in this role?
As a Policy and Program Advisor for the Emerging Technologies Office, you will:• Conduct policy research and analysis on strategic sustainable transportation policy issues.
• Participate in the development of policy/program recommendations.
• Conduct environmental scans and trends analysis as well as quantitative and qualitative research to support the policy and program development processes.
• Draft policy research papers and briefing documents on a range of policy topics and issues.
• Consult and collaborate with stakeholders to exchange information and consult on policy options and solutions.
• Provide support on multi-jurisdictional working groups and represent the Ministry at public and stakeholder events.
As a Policy Advisor for the User Policy Office, you will:• Undertake research and analytical studies in support of the development of policy initiatives and programs.
• Coordinate and plan research study designs, resource requirements and methods to address issues .
• Prepare and document research findings to provide recommendations to senior management.
• Liaise with various stakeholders to interpret research and study results and monitor trends.
• Prepare and communicate policy analysis and options through briefing notes, reports, presentations etc.
• Support the design and delivery of new programs that implement transportation policy objectives.
How do I qualify?
Policy and Program Development Skills:
• You have knowledge of policy and program development processes including the government decision-making process.
• You have experience conducting program analysis and evaluation techniques to assess the effectiveness of polices and programs.
Research and Analytical Skills:
• You have knowledge and experience applying research and analytical methods and techniques.
• You have experience conducting surveys, environmental scans, trend analyses, and quantitative and qualitative research studies.
• You can gather information from multiple sources, analyze the data, evaluate and summarize the results and provide options and recommendations.
Communication and Consultation Skills:
• You have communication skills to prepare technical reports, policy papers, analyses, draft correspondences and briefing notes.
• You have presentation skills to present policy proposals.
• You have consultation skills to develop relationships and exchange information with key stakeholders.
Specialized Knowledge:
• You have knowledge and awareness of provincial and ministry strategic directions, processes and key objectives pertaining to the transportation sector and program area.
• You have knowledge of relevant legislation, models, principles, marketplace, economics, funding, governance, and critical issues impacting the transportation sector.
• You have project management and planning skills to establish priorities and estimate resources to ensure projects meet required deadlines.
Computer Skills:
• You can operate and maintain computer software applications such as word processing, databases, spreadsheets, simulation software and presentation materials.
