WSIB offices remain closed due to COVID-19. Our priority is the health and wellness of employees and the people of Ontario. As such, this position may involve working from home for all or part of the duration of this position.

Job Summary :

Conduct validation audit, provide direction and guidance to employers on the implementation of Health and Safety Excellence Program requirements to facilitate the elimination/reduction of workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities. Provide participants with expert advice, health and safety information and support, to ensure the successful implementation of health and safety elements.

Note: Requirement to travel throughout the province with overnight absence from home to conduct validation, presentations, seminars, partnership meetings and conferences.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Conduct validation audits of program participants against Health and Safety Excellence Program standards/ requirements to assess, evaluate and determine participants' achievement score by:
• Utilizing the risk profile for each individual employer to objectively evaluate information through interviews, observations and review of documentation to validate application, implementation and conformity to HSEP requirements;
• Validating the performance of an employer's scorecard report in the audit against the Health and Safety Excellence Program standards and requirements;
• Conducting validation audit following generally accepted audit principles; which includes a review of the employer documentation, interviews and observations based on appropriate sampling size;
• Educating and/or guiding employers in the selection of new health and safety elements to identify and control workplace hazards that contribute to workplace injury/illness;
• Utilizing the business case to influence and engage employers in evaluating and developing/improving and sustaining their Health and Safety program including return to work program;
• Identifying trends/issues based on validation documents and recommending practical, effective solutions consistent with WSIB policy, administrative guidelines;
• Preparing tailored validation reports/letters based on the judgement and findings of the evaluation to provide employer with scoring, rationales and areas of improvement to consider;
• Notifying employers and preferred providers based on the findings/review of the scorecard report results that may trigger one of the following: requires on-site visit and/or eligibility/ineligibility for financial rebate;
• Addressing appeals on adverse decisions by explaining the rationale for decision and/or reconsidering evaluation findings as necessary;
2. Provide subject matter expertise to program design and evaluation for process consistency, tool quality, and customer service by:
• Providing subject matter expertise and feedback on validation strategy, tools and standards as required and/or as legislative changes occur against emerging trends and emerging regulatory requirements to identify gaps;
• Sharing knowledge and experience to improve validation tools and templates to ensure effective application of HSEP standards and requirements;
3. Facilitate information and educational sessions to enhance employers' knowledge of the Health and Safety Excellence Program and provide access to resources/tools to support them in implementing health and safety elements by:
• Delivering information sessions/seminars to highlight the benefits of enrolling in the Health and Safety Excellence Program by sharing health and safety best practices and providing access to resources/ tools
• Liaising with WSIB, MOL, and OHS system field staff (i.e. Consultants, Inspectors) through regional hubs to share health and safety best practices as it relates to HSEP standards and requirements;
• Demonstrating professional conduct in order to foster and strengthen the relationship with employers and participants,
4. Participate in projects/meetings at the team and division level to support the development and implement program enhancements by:
• Contributing to project activities conducted within manager expectations and set timelines;
• Participating and presenting in meetings and providing subject matter expertise on health and safety best practices;
5. Market and promote Health and Safety Excellence Program to potential Sponsors, Employers, HSAs, Trade & Professional Associations and WSIB stakeholders across Ontario;
6. Staying up-to-date/connected on issues related to Health and Safety in Ontario as well as other health and safety system priorities; presenting at WSIB team meetings (e.g. WSIB internal parties, OHS system partners);
7. Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

How do I qualify?

• University completion at undergraduate level with certification in Occupational Health and Safety.
Experience
• Three years prior experience in Health and Safety.
