The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) is an arm's length government agency that contributes to the quality and accountability of Ontario's publicly funded education system for K-12 and post-secondary institutions. As an evidence-based research-informed organization, EQAO is focused on empowering educators, parents/guardians, stakeholders, policy-makers and the public at large with the insights and information needed to support student learning and improve student outcomes.

EQAO is modernizing Ontario's approach to large-scale assessment. The agency creates and delivers engaging and relevant assessments for students that lead to further insights into their learning. This transformation is part of an exciting mandate to contribute to the continuous improvement of Ontario's publicly funded education system.

EQAO is dedicated to building a strong team to support the development and delivery of its assessment program. With this focus, EQAO is looking for an experienced professional to provide French language writing, editing, translation and proofreading services.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• research, write, develop and edit French and bilingual educational assessment publications and promotional materials
• provide French writing and editing services for EQAO internal/external corporate publications and communications such as newsletters, pamphlets, brochures and correspondence
• contribute to the EQAO editorial policy, and lead the development of writing style guides and editorial standards

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have superior knowledge of French grammar, spelling, and vocabulary to write and edit materials.

Specialized knowledge:

• You have knowledge of the mandate, objectives, programs of EQAO.
• You have knowledge of the objectives of education assessment projects.
• You have knowledge of strategies to present education assessment publications in a manner that will promote and benefit stakeholders' understanding of the mandate of EQAO.

Technical communications, research, writing, and editing skills:

• You have thorough knowledge of communications theory, principles and methods.
• You have solid experience in the development of corporate communication products that successfully meet the needs of the intended audience.
• You have superior research, writing, editing and proofreading skills to gather and synthesize information in a clear, precise and plain language format.
• You have demonstrated ability to review and edit academic text in detail to ensure accuracy and consistency of content, grammar and presentation style.

Oral communication, interpersonal and coordination skills:

• You have excellent coordination skills to supervise the work of external contractors on writing/editing projects, and ensure adherence to editing standards.
• You demonstrate verbal communication and consultation skills to consult with ministry management on the preparation of assessment and communication products.
• You have excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with staff and stakeholders.
• You demonstrate the ability to set priorities, organize the progress of projects and ensure that projects are completed within established deadlines.
