The Quinte Detention Centre is seeking a professional Cleaner to provide cleaning and maintenance services in the general administrative and inmate occupied areas of the correctional facility.

Please note: This position requires you to work on an on-call basis. The hours of work are 0 to 40 hours per week, including weekends and statutory holidays, based on operational requirements and with no guaranteed hours.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Perform physical cleaning services such as operating industrial cleaning equipment, lifting/moving office equipment and furniture to allow cleaning, lifting and disposing of garbage and refuse
• Maintain premises (i.e. offices, portables, staff washrooms and other areas) including cleaning, dusting, washing woodwork and tiles, walls and ceilings, cleaning inside and outside windows, light fixtures and vents, removing wax and finishing floors, cleaning washrooms, replenishing supplies
• Maintain records and security of cleaning supplies used and ordering new supplies as needed
• Other duties as assigned

How do I qualify?

Specialized Knowledge and Experience

• You have demonstrated knowledge of and professional experience with industrial cleaning methods and processes
• You have experience in the safe and proper operation of cleaning equipment and machines as well as other cleaning tools, materials, and products
• You have knowledge of health and safety (including WHMIS and OHSA) for safe handling of chemical solutions used for cleaning
• You have . Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with corporate policies and protocols in order to work within institutional security practices and procedures (i.e. maintain safety and security of the work area)

Problem-Solving Skills

• You are able to determine the appropriate type of cleaning agent to use for various cleaning tasks
• You can recognize equipment problems, need for maintenance or repairs, and deficiencies or shortages in supplies
• You can identify and report security and workplace hazards and ensure prompt corrective action

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can convey information about the use and storage of cleaning products and equipment
• You are able to alert staff and inmates of caution where cleaning is taking place
• You have writing skills to maintain records of supplies
