The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and North East Region are seeking a qualified individual to join our Detachment. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide cleaning and maintenance services for grounds, interior and exterior of buildings and vehicles, and arranging for building and vehicle repairs. Perform basic repairs and maintenance of operating systems, furniture and equipment.

The East Algoma Detachment is primarily situated along the North Channel of Lake Huron in the District of Algoma, and host to a permanent population of approximately 24,000. The detachment's administrative centre is located in Blind River, with satellite detachments in Elliot Lake and Thessalon. Our service delivery area is comprised of 14 distinct municipalities and townships, as well as three Indigenous communities. The area is well balanced with a mix of both rural and urban communities.

What can I expect to do in this role?
To provide cleaning and maintenance services for grounds, interior and exterior of buildings and vehicles, and arranging for building and vehicle repairs. To perform basic repairs and maintenance of operating systems, furniture and equipment.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
• Possess a valid Class G driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance guidelines in arranging vehicle maintenance and servicing. Knowledge of and skill in general cleaning techniques to ensure quality and efficiency. Knowledge of and skill in proper cleaning techniques for bodily substances located in cells and police vehicles. Knowledge of and skill in operating cleaning equipment.
Knowledge of maintenance of grounds keeping equipment and their operation. Understanding of building operations and mechanical systems (heating, cooling, water, alarm systems, electrical) in order to identify and arrange servicing and repairs by technical personnel. Knowledge of and skill in basic carpentry and plumbing to perform minor repairs.
Knowledge of relevant sections of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety Act that pertain to handling and storage of toxic chemical solutions such as solvents and cleansing agents, and safety in use of equipment.
Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Problem solving skills. Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks to ensure vehicle is operational. Identify requirements before sending out for servicing. Under normal circumstances, sending vehicles for maintenance and repair is straightforward, however, unexpected events such as accidents or break downs can take vehicles out of commission without notice and require determining alternate arrangements to ensure timely allocation of vehicles to officers.
Determine repair needs and mechanical problems in building, its operating systems, furniture and equipment and ascertains whether or not an external contractor is required to resolve problem.
Makes decisions in prioritizing schedule of activities to ensure that they are completed in a timely and efficient manner along with other daily responsibilities.
Ability to maintain the highest degree of integrity and professionalism. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
