***Thunder Bay was added as an additional location for this position***Your strong research and policy analysis skills are in demand at the Student Financial Assistance Branch in the Advanced Education Learner Supports Division where you will prepare a range of information and communication material in support of branch policy and program development.
What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
• research, analyze and evaluate policy and program information and reports
• prepare reports, options papers, briefing notes, House Book notes, contentious issues reports, and briefing materials
• consult and solicit input on policies with ministry and external stakeholders
• develop and maintain contacts with key internal and external stakeholders groups and provide support to multi-jurisdictional working groups
• provide input into the development of communication strategies and prepare a variety of communication material
How do I qualify?
Technical Knowledge:
• You have knowledge of program and policy development principles and government decision-making processes to draft policy options regarding new or revised branch policies and programs.
• You understand social issues and are aware of organization and programs in community and social services.
• You can interpret, understand and apply relevant legislation, regulations, and policies to prepare draft policy and program recommendations and respond to public inquiries.
• You know economic theories and how to use quantitative methods and computer modeling.
Research, Analytical and Project Management Skills:
• You demonstrate research, analytical and problem-solving skills to research policies and programs, develop draft options and impact analyses, identify issues, summarize findings and provide recommendations and to evaluate operational efficiency and effectiveness and compliance with branch/ministry programs and policies.
• You have project management and decision-making skills to lead or participate in research and analysis projects as well as experience providing technical guidance and supervision to project teams.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
• You have oral and written communication and presentation skills to provide information and advice to senior management, counterparts in other governments and stakeholders, write reports, draft correspondence, briefing notes and policy documents for cabinet submissions.
• You work well with others, demonstrate interpersonal skills and possess the ability to demonstrate diplomacy to respond to external information requests with discretion.
Computer Skills:
• You have experience using computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, project scheduling and internet to carry out research, prepare own materials and develop on-line communications material.
