Come join the Central North Correctional Centre as a Laundry Worker where you will assist with the receipt, delivery, collection, and sorting of offender laundry as well as the operation of the facility warehouse.

What can I expect to do in this role?
• Handle and process inmate laundry including: collecting, washing, drying, folding, sorting, labelling, and distributing items
• Unload incoming laundry, checking contents against shipping documents and distribute appropriately
• Maintain cleanliness of work area, ensure laundry and supplies are stored in proper areas, and maintain records
• Check delivery of supplies/equipment against packing slips and purchase orders; notify supervisor of errors or discrepancies
• Ensure safety and security of inmate workers and laundry area of warehouse
• Other duties, as assigned

How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• You are currently certified to operate a forklift OR are able to obtain certification within 3 months of hire
Specialized Knowledge and Experience
• You have demonstrated knowledge and experience with laundry processes including treatment of different fabrics and materials as well as use of cleaning products and chemicals
• You have experience operating industrial laundry equipment and machines
• You have knowledge and experience with warehouse and shipping practices in order to receive and distribute laundry, supplies and equipment, maintain inventory records
• You have knowledge of health and safety as well as Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS)
• You are able to obtain and apply knowledge of organizational policies and protocols to ensure safety and security of inmate workers and work area
Communication Skills
• You can follow general instructions regarding laundry tasks
• You can report issues and equipment malfunctions
• You have written communication skills to maintain records and logs
• You are able to supervise and direct inmate workers
Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills
• You can collect, process, sort, and distribute laundry
• You are able to check and inspect incoming goods for correct quantity and quality
• You can compare packing slips and purchase orders
• You are able to review requests as well as place and fill orders
• You can identify and address diminishing stock
