The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, Financial Management Unit is looking for a financial expert to take on a challenging role in providing corporate oversight and business and financial planning support to the Ministry's Divisions and agencies.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• serve as key point of contact between ministry clients, corporate services, and central agencies
• support program delivery and business case development through robust financial analysis, including fiscal scenario analysis and multi-year forecasting
• support a comprehensive ministry forecasting process throughout the financial planning cycle for in-year, monthly and quarterly reports
• provide business advice on fiscal/financial risk, and operational and financial issues
• coordinate the preparation of the ministry's Multi-year Plan (MyP) submissions, Printed Estimates, Estimates Briefing Books, and related material
• prepare a variety of regular and ad hoc reports and senior level presentations to support the management decision making processes
• lead and support projects aimed at improving business processes and meeting overall corporate objectives

How do I qualify?

Technical Expertise

• you have knowledge of legislation, policies, standards, and priorities related to business planning, budgeting, fiscal management and related areas
• you have knowledge of financial management strategies and ability to provide advice on effective planning and financial management of complex programs to senior management
• you have experience applying budget and accounting procedures, practices and information to facilitate and ensure financial accountability

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• you have proven relationship management skills to convince stakeholders to accept an alternative response to an issue
• you have collaboration and interpersonal skills to work with team members and all levels of management to consult and provide advice on difficult financial issues
• you have demonstrated consultation skills to participate in or lead consultations with clients who may not have a clear understanding of ministry policies/requirements
• you have demonstrated oral and written communication and presentation skills, to write clear, concise reports, correspondence, and business cases, prepare and present advice and explain financial and program-related information
• you demonstrate political acuity, diplomacy and tact to deal with sensitive issues you can consult and collaborate with stakeholders and program staff

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

• you can research, investigate and assess relevance of information and identify and evaluate emerging political and fiscal issues and problems
• you can conduct an assessment of risks (e.g. financial and other risks) and develop options to avoid potential negative implications

Computer Skills

• you have experience using standard desktop computer applications (e.g. word processing, presentations, spreadsheets) and specialized/customized databases/financial information systems to conduct research and analysis
• you can prepare compelling reports and presentations
