ELIGIBILITY FOR THIS COMPETITION IS RESTRICTED TO STEP 1 CANDIDATES INCLUDING OPS ALOC AND OCAA LAWYERS living or working within 125 km of this location. Note: Eligible lawyers from outside the Area of Search may apply but will not be entitled to relocation or travel expenses for the transfer as set out below.

The Legal Services Branch of the Treasury Board Secretariat has an immediate opening for an experienced solicitor to provide legal services and strategic advice in the areas of corporate/commercial law, procurement law, and support for the legislative and policy development process. TBS supports the Government's focus on strengthening the openness, transparency and accountability of government, working to get the best possible value for money, and improving the services for the people of Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Legal Director and the Deputy Director overseeing the I & IT and Finance Groups of the Treasury Board Secretariat Legal Services Branch, duties will include:

• Providing strategic legal advice in the area of corporate/commercial law
• Providing commercial law advice on procurement, service contracts and intellectual property licensing agreements
• Providing legal support for approvals and exemptions under section 28 of the Financial Administration Act and the development of various regulations and directives under the Act
• Developing and advising on legislation and regulation
• Supporting client policy development

How do I qualify?


• Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario

Technical Legal Experience

• Demonstrated experience in providing written and oral legal advice and opinions on an urgent basis including providing advice on procurement, intellectual property licensing, corporate and commercial law
• Knowledge of the Financial Administration Act, and in particular section 28
• Knowledge of legislative and policy development and implementation processes
• Demonstrated oral and written communications skills
• The ability to provide innovative solutions to complex problems
• Demonstrated experience in drafting a variety of legal instruments including contracts, orders in council, memoranda of agreements, and other similar documents
