What can I expect to do in this role?

As a part-time Assistant Science Educator, you will present innovative and engaging curriculum-correlated science and technology programs and workshops to students and teachers from Kindergarten to Grade 12. You will also support Science Educators with research and content development related to updating and/or developing curriculum linked science and technology programs and resources.

Presentation and Communication Skills

You have:
• Excellent and engaging communication and presentation skills
• Adaptable and responsive presentation style (able to meet the needs of the individual classes and students)
• The ability to work with students of all ages and abilities
• Excellent customer service skills and commitment to positive, inclusive, and equitable experiences
• The ability to motivate others and demonstrate active listening skills
• The ability to work well independently and in a team environment

Technical Skills and Knowledge of Science

You have:
• Demonstrated knowledge of one or more of: biology, biochemistry, physics, space sciences, chemistry, and technology
• Familiarity with Ontario science and technology curriculum for kindergarten to grade 12; 21st century skills (including critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication); scientific inquiry skills; and STEAM based learning
• Demonstrated knowledge of anti-racism education and the critical self-reflective practice and ongoing learning required to be an effective anti-racist educator
• Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing in science education and how to infuse Indigenous knowledge into educational programming in an authentic, respectful, and appropriate manner
• Experience delivering and supporting the development of program content such as workshops, videos, and other resources for in-person and/or virtual delivery
• Experience working with learning simulations and information technology

Organizational Skills

You have:
• Organization, time management, and prioritization skills, and ability to switch quickly between conflicting priorities
• Excellent critical thinking and creative problem solving skills
• Organizational skills to track program development stages and outstanding items and to prepare program documentation
