What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
• perform general building maintenance functions including minor repairs
• carry out facility inspections
• operate highway vehicles, tractors, aircraft tugs and fork lifts
• assist with training and leadership of students
• assist with fueling and defueling of aircraft and equipment
How do I qualify?
Mandatory requirements:
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
• You have the ability to travel to different work locations.
• You have the ability to obtain a valid passport.
Technical knowledge:
• You possess knowledge of general building and utility maintenance and operating procedures including grounds keeping and inspection of facilities.
• You have knowledge of and the ability to apply and interpret policies, procedures and regulations such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• You are knowledgeable of and are able to operate and maintain a variety of office equipment, light power tools and aviation support equipment.
• You can operate various vehicles such as tractors, aircraft tugs, snow blowers and forklifts.
• You have knowledge of the WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System) and Ground TDG (Transportation Dangerous Goods Act) to ensure the safe handling, transportation, storage and documentation of hazardous materials (e.g. propane, gasoline).
Organizational and problem solving skills:
• You have excellent organizational skills to schedule work, ensure deadlines are met and monitor completed work.
• You can effectively identify and troubleshoot the cause of problems for minor repairs.
• You are able to work with minimal supervision, follow and carry out instructions.
Communication and Interpersonal skills:
• You have the ability to provide group leadership to student staff and volunteers.
• You demonstrate good customer service and communication skills in order to provide instructions, assist staff and clients, as well as document work.
