The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario is an independent officer of the Legislature with a multifaceted mandate in the areas of access to government held information, access to one's own personal information and health records, and privacy protection. We have an opening for an adjudicator in our Tribunal and Dispute Resolution Division.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As an Adjudicator you will be:
Deciding matters under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) and Part X of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017 (CYFSA). The successful candidate will be expected to carry a significant caseload of PHIPA and CYFSA files, deciding matters under these highly technical statutes. Applicants should highlight any relevant experience with PHIPA/CYFSA in their cover letter.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

As the successful candidate, you have experience adjudicating in an administrative tribunal setting, and having proven ability to interpret and apply concepts under complex legislation. You have experience performing in a time-sensitive, caseload-driven environment that is subject to a high degree of scrutiny from the media and the public. You will have well-developed writing skills; experience in FIPPA/MFIPPA/PHIPA/CYFSA and in the interpretation and application of complex legislation; familiarity with administrative law concepts applicable to the exercise of statutory decision-making authority; excellent analytical skills; aptitude for impartial adjudication and well-developed communication/ interpersonal skills.

  • Qualified List Information:
    • A list of qualified candidates will be established for the Adjudicator position in the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario and will be in effect for twelve (12) months from the date the list is created. Qualified candidates on the list may be considered when filling future permanent and/or temporary vacancies in this position.


  • OPS & IPC Reciprocal Staffing Agreement:
    • The IPC has a Reciprocal Staffing Agreement with the Ontario Public Service (OPS) that enables employees to accept positions in either organization while retaining their access to benefits, pension contributions, and years of service.
