The Ontario Correctional Institute (OCI), located in Brampton, Ontario, provides specialized and intensive treatment for offender rehabilitation. It is recognized as a leader in correctional treatment.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• Provide psychological services, including the planning, implementation and supervision of individual and group therapy sessions for offenders
• Assess offenders' risk, criminogenic needs and responsivity concerns, and make recommendations for addressing targets
• Develop and communicate individual therapeutic treatment programs compatible with institutional resources
• Develop and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment programs and recommend alternatives
• Be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for offenders' mental health and care
• Participate in research and on-going program development
• Perform clinical duties, including the preparation of evaluative and clinical reports
• Assist with staff training programs
• Provide consultation and advice to the management team, and respond to inquiries

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You are registered in good standing as a Psychologist in autonomous OR supervised practice in the Province of Ontario

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• You have demonstrated expertise in psychology, including a full range of psychotherapeutic and assessment techniques (i.e., risk factors, responsivity issues and diagnosis)
• You have knowledge of the science, practices and ethics of psychology as applied within a forensic/correctional setting, and relevant provincial and federal statutes
• You have knowledge of community resources and services
• You are able to plan, develop and apply individual and group treatment to a diverse population of offenders
• You can organize, co-ordinate and supervise graduate students in providing psychological services
• You can develop and foster a productive therapeutic relationship with difficult offender clients

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can communicate information on assessment approaches, findings and treatment/rehabilitative activities to clinical professionals and correctional staff
• You demonstrate maturity, discretion and sensitivity in order to discuss diagnosis, treatment and progress with offenders, their families and/or advocates
• You demonstrate tact and diplomacy, and you are able to gain confidence of staff and supervisors within a multi-disciplinary correctional treatment setting

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

• You can determine the most appropriate diagnostic approach based on offender history and current indicators
• You can evaluate the efficiency of treatment and rehabilitative programs and identify effective solutions

    Employees who do not provide proof of full vaccination will be deemed ‘not vaccinated' under the Employer's policy and may be required to attend a vaccine education program, as determined by the Employer. Employees who are not vaccinated under the policy with a valid medical exemption will not be required to attend a vaccine education program. All employees working in congregate living settings must undergo regular rapid antigen testing, regardless of vaccination status.
