What can I expect to do in this role?
• Assist staff with the re-thermalization for meal services set-up and delivery
• Maintain proper sanitary conditions in the kitchen
• Follow guidelines of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Program in the receipt, preparation, storage, assembly and distribution of food items
• Ensuring proper documentation and controls
• Ensure the safety and security of staff
• Perform receiving duties as required
• Supervise and ensure cleanliness of ware washing area
• Supervise and instruct offender workers including writing reports
• Other duties, as assigned
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• You have a valid Food Handler Certificate (either currently OR previously certified and can obtain re-certification upon hire)
• You must possess current First Aid and Heartsaver Certificates (or the ability to obtain)
Food Services Knowledge and Experience
• You have knowledge of and experience with cook-chill/retherm safety principles as well as volume cooking to prepare/assemble a variety of volume meals
• You have knowledge and experience with various diets (i.e. lifestyle, medical, religious)
• You have knowledge of food safety practices
• You have demonstrated ability to follow health and safety standards and practices
• You can understand and comply with organizational policies and protocols in order to acquire knowledge of institutional security practices and procedures
Skills
• You have oral communication skills in order to interact with staff as well as supervise and direct inmates workers
• You have demonstrated professionalism, strong work ethics, and team work skills
• You have written communication and computer skills to prepare reports on inmate behaviour and performance
• You have problem-solving skills to recognize shortages of food supplies and report to supervisor as well as observe and report any potential problems in food quality, sanitation, or hygiene control
