Do you have volume cooking experience and culinary training? If so, the Ministry of the Solicitor General is looking for you to join one of our adult correctional facilities across Ontario to prepare, cook, and assemble standard and special diet meals in an institutional kitchen.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Based on your training, qualifications, experience, and geographic preferences, you may be contacted for either a Food Services Officer (Cook) in one of our Conventional Kitchens or a Food Services Helper (Cook Assistant) in one of our Cook-Chill Operations.

Food Services Officer (Cook) working in one of our conventional kitchens ($23.33 - $25.22 per hour)
(Located in Stratford, Napanee, North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie, Thunder Bay, Kenora, Monteith, Fort Frances)

• Prepare and assemble a wide variety of food, including complete meals, restricted diets, salads, snacks and beverages in a large correctional institution
• Oversee proper handling as well as timely production and service of meals
• Ensure proper storage, preparation, and portion control standards are met
• Provide direction and instructions to inmate workers
• Maintain an inventory of supplies
• Ensure the safety and security of the work space, staff, and equipment
• Maintain proper sanitary conditions in the kitchen area
• Other duties as assigned

Food Services Helper (Cook Assistant) working in one of our cook-chill kitchens ($22.22 - $23.89 per hour)
(Located in Maidstone, Ottawa, Brockville, Lindsay, Penetanguishene)

• Assist staff with the rethermalization for meal services set-up and delivery
• Maintain proper sanitary conditions in the kitchen
• Follow guidelines of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Program in the receipt, preparation, storage, assembly and distribution of food items
• Supervise and instruct inmate workers including writing reports
• Ensure the safety and security of the work space, staff, and equipment
• Perform receiving duties as required
• Supervise and ensure cleanliness of ware washing area
• Other duties as assigned

    Employees who do not provide proof of full vaccination will be deemed ‘not vaccinated' under the Employer's policy and may be required to attend a vaccine education program, as determined by the Employer. Employees who are not vaccinated under the policy with a valid medical exemption will not be required to attend a vaccine education program. All employees working in congregate living settings must undergo regular rapid antigen testing, regardless of vaccination status.
