About Us:
Justice Technology Services (JTS) provides critical support to the justice sector—the largest sector within the OPS—supporting partners from the judiciary; municipal courts and private bar; regional and municipal government; corrections and emergency, policing and fire services.

We provide I+IT services in partnership with the Ministry of the Solicitor General and the Ministry of the Attorney General, including their respective Agencies, Boards and Commissions.

We also support the Youth Justice Services Division of the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and are one of eight I+IT clusters of the OPS.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Product Engineer, you will:
• complete hands-on software development and solution design, deployment – working closely with leads, designers, and product managers to deliver features and functionality for various product streams
• collaborate with software developers to design and implement infrastructure and deployment pipelines to support the development process
• lead and manage the deployment, automation, maintenance and management of custom built or acquired Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) solutions
• create and maintain scripts to automate repetitive tasks and streamline the deployment process
• oversee technical project plans, budgets, schedules and activities
• perform complete analysis, design, modification of operational procedures and system processes to improve the efficiencies, security and quality of service
• provide leadership and technical expertise to the development and building of custom DevOps solutions and solutions to support end users, project teams, and technical staff
• develop proposal, lead consultations with business areas and provide advice on system options, risk, impact and costs/benefits and ensure compatibility and integration of systems throughout the ministry
• lead and conduct technical research projects on current and emerging technological trends, associated standards, directions, and I&IT administrative policies and procedures
• provide technical functional leadership, expertise, mentorship/coaching and direction to less senior team members
• assist with managing post-implementation product support and oversight of best practice for support and maintenance work

Please Note: The position may require shifts, on-call, standby and occasional call-back to provide technical support to ministry critical systems on a 24 hour, 7 days a week basis.

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge

You have:
• Experience providing end-to-end solutions, including design, development, deployment, and integration for large and complex enterprise-wide solutions on premise, Azure or AWS Cloud.
• Comprehensive understanding and skills for implementing event driven application, event driven microservice, real-time and batch processing.
• Design and development experience of implementing API with: Web Services using REST/JSON/Swagger and SOAP/WSDL
• Experience in designing and developing applications using, but not limited to, Spring Boot, Java Scripts/Angular/React, etc.
• Understanding and skills for implementing event driven application, event driven microservice, real-time and batch processing.
• Experience in automation of software delivery and deployment processes using tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
• Understanding of agile development methodologies and Git workflow.
• Experience of building and maintaining monitoring and logging systems to ensure uptime and performance of the production environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex issues related to the production environment, including but not limited to infrastructure, applications, and networking.
• Experience with database architectures, data modelling and data migrations, preferably in Oracle or MS SQL.
• Design and deployment experience using IBM Integration Bus, IBM ACE toolkit or IBM WebSphere Message Broker is an asset.
• Knowledge of network protocols, n-tier network topology, application/system security.
• Experience supporting production systems, working with end users and technical teams to investigate and resolve issues.

Reasoning, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

• You can assess and recommend architectural strategies for acquisition, development, integration, implementation, and deployment of complex technical solutions.
• You can assess technical design problems and develop computerized solutions to information problems in support of end users.
• You possess advanced problem solving skills to assess, diagnose and resolve problems impacting the information technology infrastructure and resolve operational problems with software.

Oral and Written Communication Skills

• You possess strong oral communication and listening skills.
• You have demonstrated written communication skills to prepare project reports, design/development documentation, manuals, senior level briefing materials, and cost benefits analyses.
• You have demonstrated interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
