As a Policy Analyst in the Farm Finance Branch, Insurance & Partnerships Unit, you will play a crucial role in shaping policy and program development. Your responsibilities will include conducting research, analyzing data, and providing consultation services. Collaborating with ministry staff, stakeholders, and other jurisdictions, you'll contribute to the formulation of policy options, strategies, and recommendations. About Us
The Insurance and Partnerships Unit is responsible for working with industry and other government partners to develop policies and programs that help farmers manage business risks that are beyond their control (e.g. weather/pests, non-payment, predation). The unit is responsible for providing policy direction and delivery oversight on several of the national Business Risk Management programs under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership framework, such as AgriInsurance (Production Insurance), as well as other provincial programs that support Ontario's agricultural sector (e.g. Farm Business Registration Program, Farm Property Class Tax Rate Program, loan guarantee programs and financial protection programs).

About the job

• Apply appropriate research methods, models, and techniques to support policy and program development.
• Use various analytical methods and modeling techniques to synthesize and present data for review and action.
• Regularly scan for new trends, emerging issues, and conditions that could impact policies and programs.
• Contribute to project planning by providing input on timelines, options, and recommendations.
• Collaborate with other ministries on cross-ministry initiatives.
• Attend stakeholder meetings and engagement events, gathering input on proposed policies and programs.
• Present complex research and data related to the agrifood industry to various audiences

What you bring to the team

• You have knowledge of policy and legislative processes
• You have knowledge of program development and implementation
• You have experience in using policy and research tools, methods and techniques

Research, Evaluation and Analytical Skills

• You have experience with various research methodologies and techniques to gather qualitative and quantitative data, conduct environmental scans and identify trends and emerging issues.
• You can contribute to the development of innovative programs, implementation plans and standards/guidelines.
• You can assess the effectiveness of policies/programs against Ministry initiatives and goals
• You can interpret and apply policy, procedures and legislation

Relationship Management and Consultation Skills

• You have experience in creating and managing stakeholder relationships
• You can consult and provide appropriate advice on policies, standards and programs to stakeholders
• You can collaborate to work within multi-disciplinary teams
• You demonstrate sound judgment, sensitivity and a high degree of political acuity
