If so, consider joining the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS) Biology Section as a Screening Forensic Biologist to perform examinations of physical evidence in order to locate, identify, and document stains of bodily substances and DNA deposits and to prepare samples for DNA analysis.
The Centre of Forensic Sciences provides forensic testing services for criminal and non-criminal investigations in the province of Ontario. It operates independently of, but in partnership with, police, prosecutors and other stakeholders to produce objective, unbiased test results and opinions of importance to the justice system.
• This role involves regular exposure to accounts and physical evidence of violent crimes and may not be suitable for all people.
Note: At this time, we have one 12-month temporary position available in Toronto.

About the job
Within a team environment, as assigned, you will:
• examine case materials using a variety of microscopes to identify evidential material
• perform a range of forensic analyses used to identify body fluids including blood, semen and saliva
• demonstrate your expertise in advanced analytical instruments
• use your skills in hardware and software applications to assist in process improvements
• use your skills in software applications to assist with data management testing results
• generate, interpret and compile data and analytical reports

•You have experience with laboratory practices and techniques and experience in processing high volumes of assigned work in a laboratory environment
•You have knowledge of scientific theories in such disciplines as chemistry, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology and their application to forensic science
•You can set up, operate and troubleshoot advanced scientific instrumentation
•You are able to take an active role in research and development of new instrumentation or methodologies
•You have time management skills to ensure efficient work flow of assigned tasks
Quality Assurance & Health and Safety
• You have demonstrated knowledge of laboratory quality assurance systems and how they are used to confirm, validate and ensure reliability of test results
• You have knowledge of accreditation standards for laboratories and legislative authorities (such as WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety Act)
•You can identify precautions to be taken in handling biohazards and toxic substances
Communication (oral and written) and Interpersonal Skills
• You have experience preparing data findings and detailed notes of observations and tests
• You can draft operational procedures for new equipment and methods as well as train colleagues
• You can work effectively in a team environment
