We are seeking a creative, technically strong, strategic thinker to join a team of policy professionals that contribute to the development, coordination and maintenance of provincial policies and program development relating to water management and associated infrastructure.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• provide policy advice and expertise related to water management and the administration of the Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act including: dam safety; water management planning; and the consideration of environmental sustainability and physical infrastructure

• support strategic planning by conducting environmental scans, remaining abreast of issues associated with the wise use of water resources and working closely with government agencies, industry and non-governmental organizations

• thrive in a multi-disciplinary environment, regularly interacting with professionals from a variety of disciplines including: engineering; biology; planning; and finance

• play a key role in participating on staff level intergovernmental and external stakeholder committees, task groups, partnerships and business relationships

How do I qualify?

Technical expertise:

• You have expert knowledge of current theories, methodologies, issues, applications and practices related to water management, and physical infrastructure, in order to provide expert advice related to wise management of Ontario water resources, including administration of the Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act.
• You have sound knowledge of current and emerging issues relating to this field in order to contribute to the development of provincial policies and programs, assist in drafting legislation and technical guidelines, and provide advice.

Policy development experience:

• You have knowledge of the policy development and evaluation process including an understanding of the importance of stakeholder engagement.

Analytical and evaluative skills:

• You have proven strategic thinking, analytical and decision-making skills required to evaluate policies, strategies, plans, and proposals to determine their relevance.
• You have the ability to assist in the development of legislation, regulations, standards and guidelines, and to provide strategic advice.

Project management skills:

• You have demonstrated project management, work planning, organizing, and coordinating skills, as well as ability to deal with large volumes of information and data.

Relationship management and communication skills:

• You have demonstrated relationship management skills to liaise with ministry staff, other ministries, other levels of government and key industry, non-governmental organization and public interest stakeholders.
• You can display effective communication skills to consult, influence, prepare reports, make presentations and train staff.
